Ok, so the place doesn’t have 32 flavours (or flavors!), nor even 16 on offer, but I have to say that despite the cool weather of mid-winter in Sicily I was happy to sit and sample all that this “gelateria” had on offer.
All of them looked tempting but I decided to try the chocolate ice cream. Chocolate “flavour” it was not. This was real chocolate served in the form of ice cream. Thick and sumptuous with the occasional crunch of chocolate drops – not overdone. Too many chocolate drops would have been a distraction.
The owner of this establishment (Gelateria Ciuri-ciuri) dug out the ice cream with a sort of colourfully handled spatula rather than the typical scoop of most ice cream shops. I felt a bit guilty about choosing any of the ice creams on offer since they all looked good and all had this freshly created appearance that it seemed a crime to disturb them. But I did, and after tasting the stuff I lost the guilt!
Among the options were a variety of chocolate ice creams (for example orange flavoured chocolate), summer fruits (with whole fresh berries) and the equivalent of “cookies and cream” which had huge biscuits in the ice cream – biscuits that one would buy in a specialist cake shop … which, by the way, this was too!
I must go back for more. Soon!
